The
Mountain Lake Biological Station is a field research and teaching facility
located in the deciduous hardwood forest of the Appalachian Mountains
of southwestern Virginia. It is the field station of the Biology
Department at the University of Virginia. MLBS provides a wide array
of natural environments as well as two modern laboratories. Full living
accommodations are available on site. We invite researchers and students
of biology or environmental science to use this site or contact the station
about research and course opportunities.
From the Director
This year brings a variety of exciting changes to MLBS. Our new Station Manager, Mark Larson, has been with us since last summer and is providing year-round support on site with exceptional style and proficiency. Anne Marie De Marco Rehm is our new administrative assistant in the Charlottesville office, spearheading efforts to provide new services for station users. Associate Director Eric Nagy helped secure NSF funding for much needed residential improvements that will begin this summer and provide year round accommodations for researchers, families, and group use. Along with the usual MLBS summer courses and the REU program, stay tuned for special events including the 4th of July Music and Pig Roast Extravaganza.
Hope to see you on Salt Pond Mountain in 2008.
