The Power of Place
Greetings from Mountain Lake!
If you are someone who has experienced the intellectual community and magic of the Station, or someone who has admired from afar our work and contribution to science, learning, and the understanding of the natural would we all live in, I hope that you will consider giving back so that we can continue offering extraordinary opportunities.
We are grateful for gifts in any amount and in support of any Station program (student support, research, ArtLab, etc.), or read on to learn about three featured ways you can support the Station.
Bring Back the Walton Lecture
The Walton Lecture, which has been given every year since 1980, is the cornerstone event of the summer. The event brings to the Station community prominent thinkers in evolution, ecology, field biology and animal behavior, and provides a forum for discussion of topics related to ongoing Station research. Dian Fossey, Doug Futuyma and Jonathan Losos are just a few of the scientists who have shared their work with Station residents and visitors. Unfortunately, we lost our funding for the lecture in 2012. The lecture costs $2,000 to put on each year. Your support will help us bring back this important event next summer.
Walton Lecture Sponsor: $1,000
Walton Lecture Supporter: $500
Support Student Scientists
Fellowships and scholarships allow us to offer financial assistance to those students who might not otherwise be able to study at the Station. Your support ensures that passionate students will be able to experience all that Mountain Lake offers.
Graduate Student Fellowship: $500
Undergraduate Student Scholarship: $250
Become a Friend of Mountain Lake
Your gift will be directed toward the most pressing needs of the Station.
Friend of MLBS: $50
Please share with future users of the Station; give at one of these levels, or any amount of your choice.
And make it a point to come back and visit our special place on Salt Pond Mountain. Thank you for your support of the Station and the University of Virginia.
