The Mountain Lake Master's Program provides a flexible alternative
to the typical graduate program in biology. Since requirements
for the degree can be met during the summer, students (such as school
teachers) who have other commitments during the academic year can
concentrate on graduate work during the summer.
Admission:
Before beginning a Master's Program at Mountain Lake a student must
be accepted by the Graduate Committee of the Department of Biology and be admitted to the Graduate
School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Virginia. Courses
taken at the Station prior to admission cannot be counted toward the
degree unless permission is granted by the Graduate
Committee of the Department of Biology and the Dean of the Graduate
School.
Degree:
Students in the MLBS Master's Program are formally candidates for the M.S. degree in the Department of Biology and must fulfill all requirements of the Department and Graduate School.
Advisory Committee:
The Advisory Committee generally includes the station Director and at least one other member of the Graduate Faculty at the University of Virginia. The student's advisor may be a member of the MLBS summer faculty or a researcher at the station.
